To make our characters and stories in our improv deep, rich and interesting, we can draw from the deepest well we know: ourselves. In this class, we'll practice techniques that can help us infuse our characters with our own minds and lives, pulling from a few different dimensions of the self. And we'll learn how to be the best scene partners in enabling and uplifting our colleagues when they do the same.
Learning points:
● offer your knowledge and interests as playthings in scenes, and learn to ask or play along if you don't know;
● have fun sharing your opinions and giving those to your characters, and learn to react to other opinions in empowering ways;
● you never have nothing: even your immediate physical sensation is a perfectly fine scene starter, and together you and your partner can make a universe.
Juwel Haque is an improvisation teacher, performer and director. He teaches classes and courses for beginners, enthusiasts and professionals alike, with AndAlso Improv and at festivals. His style is relaxed and encouraging, creating a safe and trusting environment within which to take risks. Juwel is passionate not just about sharing his own expertise but also about cultivating insightful players who can reflect and think for themselves.
