Film oparty jest na nigdy niezrealizowanym scenariuszu, napisanym w 1956 r. przez znanego francuskiego aktora, mima i reżysera Jacquesa Tati. Historia rozgrywa się w Edynburgu lat 50-tych XX wieku. Głównym bohaterem jest iluzjonista – animowana wersja samego Jacquesa Tati, stworzona przez Laurenta Kirchera. Film przedstawia historię starzejącego się artysty music-hallowego, zmuszonego podróżować bez przerwy pomiędzy miastami i wsiami, aby prezentować swój numer magiczny w podrzędnych barach i parkach. Pewnego dnia spotyka on na swojej drodze młodą dziewczynę Alice, która – mając w sobie zachwyt dziecka – całkowicie wierzy w jego sztuczki, uważając je za prawdziwą magię. Aby ją uszczęśliwić, iluzjonista dokłada jeszcze większych starań w swoich występach. A ona obdarza go coraz większym zachwytem. Obserwujemy jej przeistoczenie z miejscowego kopciuszka w pięknego łabędzia. Według słów reżysera: „to nie jest romans, to bardziej relacja jak pomiędzy ojcem a córką”.
The film is based on an unproduced screenplay written in 1956 by the renowned French actor, mime, and director Jacques Tati. The story takes place in 1950s Edinburgh. The main character is an illusionist - an animated version of Jacques Tati himself, created by Laurent Kircher. The film tells the story of an aging music-hall performer, forced to travel constantly between cities and villages to present his magic act in low-end bars and parks. One day, he meets a young girl named Alice, who, with a childlike sense of wonder, fully believes his tricks to be real magic. The illusionist begins to put more effort into his performances to make her happy, while she admires him more and more in return. We watch her transformation from a local Cinderella figure into a beautiful swan. As the director puts it: “this is not a romance, but rather a relationship more like that between a father and a daughter.”

In Japan, she worked on “The Wind Rises” directed by Hayao Miyazaki and “The Dreaming Machine,” the final unfinished project of Satoshi Kon. In Hollywood, she collaborated with Netflix, Disney and Warner Bros., joining the animation team of “Isle of Dogs” by Wes Anderson and the live-action “Aladdin” by Guy Ritchie. In recent years, she has been working with the MAPPA studio on major productions, including “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc” and “Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3.”
